from the- Sunday Observer
it was back in 2011 when Dialog first started launching a 4G test program which offered 50-100mbps data speed across a 4G LTE network ,during the very same time period Mobitel tested out their 96 mbps pilot program , fast forward to 2012 and we see a huge increase in smartphone and tablet adoption in Sri Lanka ,as the usage increased , Networks soon had to shift to higher data speeds and packages , a fine example is Etisalat who recently launched South Asia's first dual carrier network only a month before the new Iphone 5 was launched which made Etisalat one of the first networks to directly launch it as a carrier based device ,and made one of the best HSPA networks , if not the best network in the country , but now it has a new challenger in town , say hello to Dialog 4G who launched its first TD/LTE network 4 days ago( sorry for the lateness ) well what exactly is TD/LTE ....TD LTE stands for Time division / long term evolution , standard LTE has 2 channels , one for upload and one for download , but TD/LTE has a single channel that supports both upload and download so the speed will differ according to what you are doing on the internet , its much more cost effective to run a TD/LTE network since it requires little overhaul to the network unlike the bigger LTE networks which cost billions of dollars to set up , and since Dialog had used WimaX earlier its quite possible that they upgraded their Wimax to TD/LTE standards .........according to Dialog reps , the entree package costs Rupees 1400 ( $11) and offers 25GB data with 4mbps data speeds which will differ and might even exceed 4mbps (20 mbps max)according to usage , currently Dialog's TD/LTE will start from the Colombo City area and will expand to the rest of the island .
