Last week, following the introduction of the Galaxy S 4, we talked a little about Samsung’s promises to bring some of the GS4′s features to existing Samsung models. Today, we’re back to looking at what the future holds for updates to a number of Samsung devices, this time concerning the possibility of them seeing get Android 5.0.
This info is supposedly a “pre-list” from a Samsung insider, and the data may change between now and when Samsung makes its final decisions. Basically, of all Samsung Androids currently announced, only the Galaxy S 4, the GS3, the Note II, Note 8.0, and Note 10.1 will make the leap to Android 5.0. Older models like the Galaxy S II and original Note, along with the Galaxy S III mini and other lower-powered models, will top-out at Android 4.2.2
Some of Samsung’s more mid-range Androids may get somewhat of a “value pack” Android 5.0 update, supposedly offering some 5.0-like features, but would ultimately stay on Jelly Bean.
While it might be nice to see some of these 2011 models get Android 5.0, we can’t say that seeing a breakdown like this is necessary surprising; at the least custom ROMs should deliver where Samsung doesn’t.
