Following the announcement of its new Cintiq Companion tablets earlier this evening, Wacom has also taken the wraps off its new stylus for the iPad. The Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus aims to make sketching on the tablet feel realistic, offering pressure-sensitive functionality and a specialized design aimed at comfortable handling.
The Intuos Creative Stylus, as mentioned, features pressure-sensitive touch, allowing the user to draw or paint in a more realistic fashion than some offerings allow. Wacom says the device offers a “realistic pen-on-paper feel” that provides a tactile, perhaps nostalgic, feel to the act of digital drawing on the iPad. The stylus is compatible with several drawing apps.
Among these apps is the company’s own Bamboo Paper, Autodesk’s SketchBook Pro, ArtRage, ProCreate, and Psykopaint. In addition to offering pressure sensitivity, the stylus also features a design that allows it to fit in one’s handle comfortably, says Wacom, being made of brushed aluminum available in two colors: black and a black/blue mixture. There are shortcut buttons on the pen for time saving, and power comes via a AAAA battery.
As far as specifics go, the Intuos offers 2048 pressure sensitivity levels, and offers Bluetooth 4.0 Smart technology for connectivity with the iPad. The device was designed for the third and fourth generation Apple slates, as well as the iPad Mini. The device ships with a spare battery (life per battery is said to be “days of constant use”) and a couple replacement nibs.
Said Wacom’s Global Product Management Hartmut Woerrlein: “We’ve had lots of customer requests for a pen solution that adapts pressure-sensitivity to the iPad, as this is something they’re used to when working with our pen tablets. It’s also a great thing that Wacom offers an iPad app that is fully compatible with our new Creative Stylus.”
