Qualcomm has made an important announcement today at CES 2014. The company has announced its latest Snapdragon processor called the Snapdragon 802. This processor isn't aimed at tablets and smartphones, rather Qualcomm is aiming the Snapdragon 802 at the next generation of smart TVs, set top boxes, and digital media players.

The Snapdragon 802 was designed by Qualcomm to power Ultra HD video content and console quality gaming on smart TVs and other devices like set top boxes. The Snapdragon 802 is also designed to allow concurrent use. That means the 802 will allow users to play an online game while video conferencing or surf the web while streaming a movie.

The Snapdragon 802 has enough muscle to allow the playback of up to four HD videos on the same TV. The chip also supports the ability to send some of those HD movies to connected devices. That means that you can watch one HD streaming movie while three other people in the home watch different streaming movies at the same time.

The 802 has features that Qualcomm designed specifically for TVs. Those features include broadcast, analog, and digital I/O interfaces. The chip also supports a custom Android Software Framework based on KitKat. That custom framework is designed to make it easy to develop performance and media optimized Android solutions for the Snapdragon 802.

The processor features a quad core Krait 1.8GHz CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. It also supports Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. The Snapdragon 802 also has dual band Qualcomm VIVE 802.11ac wireless connectivity. The processor will begin sampling early this year and be available in commercial devices in late 2014. SlashGear

HTC One to sell as TD 101 at China Mobile

Then, just a few days ago, the company launched the HTC One, which is going to be the company’s only One-branded handset this year, a make-or-break kind of project for the Taiwanese Android maker that’s still having a tough time fighting against the competition, especially Samsung. We were under the impression that HTC will further invest in its One brand and not budge to carrier demands anymore when it comes to changing the name of the product – in the U.S., AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are going to sell it as the HTC One. But it looks like things aren’t necessarily so, and no, it’s not Verizon that’s going to get its way selling the One as the Droid DNA Plus, as it was recently rumored. We’re looking at China Mobile this time around, which has announced the HTC One as the HTC TD 101. That’s certa...
