Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 may have been shot down in E.Ukraine , both sides blame each other (UPDATE+alternate theories)

A Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 (9M-MRD)aircraft has reportedly been shot down in East Ukraine , the plane was  reportedly carrying 295  298 people from Amsterdam and crashed 80KM from Russian airspace .The current situation surrounding the crash site is still uncertain and both the Kiev forces and separatists blame each other for the incident stay tuned for the latest by clicking the #MH17 tag below

Update - Airliner MH17 - Boeing 777-200 . All 295 people have been confirmed as dead , the plane was flying over E.Ukraine (Donetsk) and reportedly crashed before reaching Russian airspace . Both Ukraine and Russia blame eachother for launching a SAM (surface to air missile) but official investigations have not commenced yet so we cant say who did what (for now)

The crash is the second major loss of a Malaysian Airlines jet after a Boeing 777 airliner (MH370) disappeared over the South China Sea  two months ago.The East Of Ukraine has been the point of fierce attacks involving Ukrainian armed forces and Pro Russian Separatists who have been involved in shooting down a military Ilushin IL76 aircraft a month ago .

Update 2 - Tail section of the aircraft has been recovered  , might be due to in-air breakup due to missile hit or structural failure. A SAM System (SA11 Gadfly) /BUK system may have been involved in the incident . BUK/Gadfly is a Soviet era SAM system used by the Soviet union and its successor states

Note on BUK system - .The system is a vehicular based system consisting of a tracked chassis and 4 missiles on a turret launcher that can launch Radar guided missiles at targets of upto 30Km . The Malaysian plane has been flying at 32,000 feet when the missile hit the plane . The Missile's proximity charge would have exploded outside the plane , creating a rapid de-pressurization and structural collapse of the plane . Both Russia and Ukraine have reserve units of BUK missiles so we can't say what happened until a proper investigation happened .

Malaysia Airlines confirms it received notification from Ukrainian ATC that it had lost contact with flight MH17 at 1415 (GMT) at 30km from Tamak waypoint, approximately 50km from the Russia-Ukraine border.

Flight MH17 operated on a Boeing 777 departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Amsterdam local time) and was estimated to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.10 am (Malaysia local time) the next day.

The flight was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew onboard.

Update 6 - Passenger manifest is still not confirmed ,but so far 23 U.S citizens , 5 to 10 Britons , 3 French Citizens and 71 Dutch Citizens are reported to be among the dead

Update 8 - The White House and the Kremlin issue statements ,urging a humanitarian cease fire , the Black Boxes of the downed airliner have been recovered by separatist forces in the area.

Update - Blackbox and CVR (cockpit voice recorder handed over to Malaysian authorities at the scene , recovered bodies have been sent to 3 refrigerated railway carriages in order to transport them outside the conflict areas , autopsies may be performed on the bodies on a later date , .Bodies which belong to the Netherlands will be airlifted at a later date .

Alternate theories -

As the investigation starts , many alternate theories are circulating around the internet , so far the unofficial explainationstates that a  surface to air missile launched from the separatist side , but as the investigation continues , this theory might change , or possible not , so lets take a look at the alternate theories proposed for the downing of the aircraft .

MISTAKEN IDENTITY/Deliberate attack from BUK launcher 
*Ukrainian/Separatist  side shot it down by mistake - This is highly possible due to the fact that both sides have (possibly) deployed the system in the area .The hit might have been a malfunction in the system or a trigger happy crew.Theories also claim that the launch would have been set up to intentionally shoot down the aircraft .


ASSASSINATION GONE BAD?
*Target was Russia's Airforce One - The news article broke out via RT and it soon joined the ranks of the alternate theories for the downing of the aircraft , the IL96 is Russia's official transport for VIP's and the president . The plane at 30,000 ft would have been indistinguishable to the naked eye as the IL96 shares a white on Blue/Red color scheme that looks similar if not identical to the Malaysian airlines color scheme .The plane at the time was used to transport the President of Russia - Vladimir Putin back to Russia after he attended the first BRICS meeting in Brazil .

“I can say that Putin’s plane and the Malaysian Boeing intersected at the same point and the same echelon. That was close to Warsaw on 330-m echelon at the height of 10,100 meters. The presidential jet was there at 16:21 Moscow time and the Malaysian aircraft – 15:44 Moscow time,” a source told the news agency on condition of anonymity.

UKRAINIAN FIGHTER JET(S)?

A new theory , according to Russian Military analysts claim that a Ukrainian SU -25 attack aircraft was scrambled in pursuit of the Malaysian aircraft ,the reason for escorting/chasing a passenger jet is unclear , the Su 25 was estimated to be 5 km away from the 777 and the jet supposedly fired a R-60 air-to-air missile at the passenger aircraft , according to the theory , the act was to tarnish the image of Russia and get popular support to defeat the rebels from East Ukraine .

Russia also challenged the U.S to put out their alleged satellite data of the region showing evidence that the missile was launched from a SAM system rather than a air to air missile , radar and satellite data from all 3 countries - Ukraine ,Russia and the U.S have not been published openly by either side so the alternate theories still run wild
