Sony has unveiled a new successor to the somewhat popular Xperia M series today , the phone - Xperia M5 brings a heap of hardware upgrades to the series with the Mediatek Helios X10 , the 21mp camera and the IP68 rating taking center stage .
Sony Xperia M5 , like most phones before it follows Sony's squarish omni balance design derived from the flagship Z series , the phone which is quite large for a mid ranger packs a 5" 1080p display along with front facing speakers and a huge camera lens in the front . The phone is protected from the elements thanks to its IP68 water and dust protection rating and it uses a water resistant nano coating on the microUSB port so flaps will no longer be necessary .
Camera wise , the Xperia M5 features a 21MP rear camera derived from Sony's Z flagship series , the rear LED flash equipped camera module shoots 4K video recording as well , HDR recording and all of Sony's AR effects are available . The phone also has a 13MP front facing camera , but this does not come with its own flash module (unlike the Xperia C5 announced along with the M5) .
Processing power comes courtesy of Mediatek - the Helios X10 to be exact , this 8 core chip designed on the Cortex A53 platform has powerVR G6 rogue graphics and 3GB of RAM , YOU GET 16gb of storage which is expandable via microSD cards . The phone also features Android 5.0 with Sony's custom power saving options which will come in handy as the phone's 2600 mAh battery is said to give more than a day of battery life .Sony's Xperia M5 will be available in mid August along side the Xperia C5 Ultra .
