Alleged renders show that Apple may be planning new iPod touch for 20th Anniversary

If you were a 90's kid or an early Gen Z'er, chances are that you may have owned or at least seen an iPod in its variety of formfactors throughout the years. Although the sun has set on the once trend -setting music player brand, the iPod touch has managed to outlive its brethren and survive unto the present day - mostly due to the use of a touchscreen and iOS while other "dumber" iPod died out as most of its market was consumed up by  the iPhone and iPad.

Fast forward to today, the current iPod in some ways could be considered a relic - thanks to its smallish display, legacy internals from an iPhone 7 and a home button from days past. Until today, i was quite skeptical of another successor as the age of iPods have basically ended, and on top of that, the announcement of the basic SE models and a base iPad also killed any hopes of a successor. But what if Apple planned or is planning something of an anniversary present - a kind of a last sendoff to the popular model, well say hello to the next generation of the iPod touch(According to rumors that is)

Starting from the design, the iPod has been heavily squared off and borrows heavily from the iPhone 12 series and Apple's new design language. The back is probably a unibody (judging from the images) and the colors will be anodized. The front is where the most significant changes are said to occur - the new display, which is of an unknown size (5" + hopefully) is surrounded by a bezel with a single front camera without a notch - this is probably because the iPod will lack the face recognition sensors and the earpiece of the iPhones. The

design of the screen allows the device to use gestures like an iPhone -sans pressing the home button.Other specs of the iPod are not available, but we can expect Apple to throw some older hardware such as an Apple A12 SOC and an 8mp camera from the iPhone 8 or similarly aged products.

The release date is not confirmed, nor are the design which for now should be taken with a grain of salt. But considering that the iPod is to celebrate 20 years in 2021, we guess it will be around October.
