Ford has unveiled their latest EV based on one of America's best selling truck platforms - The new F150 "Lightning". The new truck - which sits as a new power option right next to the gasoline and hybrid models is mostly identifiable by the large light bar in front and a more closed off grille . The truck, which is said to be built at Ford's Rogue EV plant is said to available as a 2022 model year and is expected go on sale for a MSRP of $39974 for the commercial variant and $52974 for the XLT models (Without tax). The Lariat and premium trims will be north of $90,000.
The new F150 EV is said to be just as capable as its gasoline brethren with a similar aluminum body construction and has a 10000lb towing capacity and 2000lb cargo payload (The front of the truck has a storage area as well "frunk" and this could carry 400lb) . The motor provides 563 horsepower and 775lb ft of torque and a performance figure of 0-60 in around 4 seconds.
Overall the addition of an EV option to the F150 series is a signal that may other vehicles in the F series will eventually have this power option. And considering that rivals have already unveiled their own EV trucks, it's almost high time Ford dipped their feet in it
