Nikon Z9
Nikon has officially launched their flagship Mirrorless camera - the Z9. The camera, which in some ways takes over the position of the D6 as the era of DSLR's slowly wind down boasts a 45.7MP sensor with no mechanical shutter, 8K recording and 120fps shooting.
The Z9 features a Full frame 45.7MP Stacked CMOS sensor with 493 AF points and has Hybrid Phase detection AF. The sensor has a sensitivity of ISO 64 to 25600 (32-102400 expandable) and considering that has an electronic shutter, it can reach 1/32000 shutter speed (max) and if you want to use a flash it can hit a maximum of 1/800 through HSS (high speed sync) .
The sensor features IBIS and with VR enabled lenses, it can hit 6 stops of vibration compensation and it has a Vibration Lock to protect the sensor and the mechanism if it detects high levels of vibration or unintentional drops. Due to the lack of a mechanical shutter, the sensor can hit a maximum of 20fps RAW (1000 image buffer is available), 30fps JPEG and if you use a low quality JPEG (11MP) , you can hit 120 fps with AF/AE.The sensor can allow shooting upto -8.5 EV
Video recording on the camera is said to be 8K at 30fps (limited to 125 minutes) and 4K at 120fps (Oversampled from 8K) - Apple ProRes 422 (10bit) is supported. Nikon is also said to be bringing its excellent 3D AF tracking , Eye AF for humans and Animals as well as scene recognition algorithms to the Z9 which will improve Autofocus in both stills and video. Nikon is also said to be allowing 8K 60fps RAW (N-RAW) recording via a firmware update in 2022.
The chassis of the camera, which is said to be about 20% smaller than the D6, is fully weather sealed and built out of a metal alloy and is fully weather sealed. The rear 2100 dot 3.2" LCD - which supports 4 Axis of movement is not fully articulating but offers you the ability to tilt it to portrait when the camera is mounted for portrait sessions . The EVF of the camera has a blackout free feature and has 3690 dots of resolution (0.5in).The top LCD featuring camera details are available here as well.
Other features include a RJ45 port for data transfer,USBC charging,Mic/Headphone inputs, HDMI A and a EN-EL18D battery (CIPA 740 shots rating). Pricing starts at $5499.95.
Nikkor Z 400mm F2.8 TC VR S
Nikkor Z 24-120mm f4 S
Nikon has also launched its 24-120mm f4 S line lens - the new all purpose lens, which will be a staple for event photographers . The lens uses one aspherical ED element, 3 ED glass elements and 3 aspherical elements as well as a silent focus motor. The lens weighs 630g and is priced at $1100.Nikkor Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 VR S
Nikkor also announced its 100-400mm f4.5-4.6 lens for the Z platform - the new lens, built with teleconverters in mind - could be expanded upto 560mm or 800mm - perfect for shooting wildlife and thanks to VR, it will be suitable on any environment especially considering that most Z bodies already have excellent IBIS support as well. Pricing starts at $2700 and will be available by December.
Nikon FTZ II (F mount to Z mount)
Nikon also announced their latest F to Z adapter - the FTZII, the new adapter, which no longer has a tripod mount also has a more streamlined design allowing Nikon F mount lenses with larger profiles and tripod handles to easily adapt to the Z. Pricing will start at $250.
