Samsung has unveiled its fifth iteration of its most popular phablet smartphone - The Samsung Galaxy Note today , launched along side the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus , the Note 5 brings Samsung's new unibody construction and tried and tested S-Pen features in a somewhat compact 5.7" .
First look at the device shows us that the new Note 5 is a completely different animal compared to the previous generations , all previous models of the Note lineup featured utilitarian builds and removable back panels with removable batteries and somewhat hot swappable MicroSD cards - two features that are now absent in the Note 5 , but instead of a cheap feeling plastic build (apart from the Note 4) the new phone feels more up market and definitely worth a bit of a premium . Curved metal Edges surround the device and this can be spec'ed in Gold/bronze or silver according to your liking , machine drilled holes give access to the MicroUSB 2.0 port ,the speaker and of course Samsungs S-Pen - this Waycom digitizer/stylus gives users the ability to do more multitasking options at the launch of Air Command - a virtual options pallet that can be accessed on any screen .The addition of the stylus however does make the Note5 a bit thicker when compared to the Galaxy S6 peers but the addition of a slight curvature makes holding the large gadget more tolerable .
The display of the new Samsung Note 5 is probably one of the best SAmoled pannels made for a Note phone yet . The 2560x1440 resolution panel features a high pixel count of 518ppi and it is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 4 .The front of the device is flanked by two capacitive buttons as well as a Fingerprint scanner housed in the Samsung main button .
Processing power in the Note 5 comes courtesy of Samsung's own Exynos 7420 ,although we expected to see a Exynos 7422 , the chip has plenty of turbocharged power for doing just about anything . The chip has a general clock speed of 2.1Ghz and it comes in a Big.Little configuration of 4+4 cores .The processor has 4GB of RAM , which is a major bump from the 3GB in the previous model , storage options sadly include only a 32GB and 64GB option with no 128GB option or Expandable MicroSD card slots
Cameras on the device come in the form of one 16MP OIS sensor with a single LED flash , the camera can record 4K video at 60fps which is a good point for the phone but we recommend a higher storage option if you prefer recording long videos .A lone 5 mp front camera sits in front along with the ability to record 1080p .Battery life of the Note5 is supposed to be very good eventhough the capacity has gone down to just 3000 mAh , this battery is non removable , but as a reward for the trade off , Samsung expects good battery enhancements in its build of Android 5.1.1 and quick charge support with Wireless Qi charging facilities . Connectivity on the phone includes the usual multi band LTE support , GPS ,Beidou,Glonass , NFC and Bluetooth 4.2 ensuring you have everything you need at the touch of your fingertips . The Note5 is expected to be very expensive but U.S customers do have the option of picking up their pre-ordered devices starting today .
