LG's Liger gets benchmarked , and leaked ahead of launch

LG has been working on their own processor for some time , the company , which anounced their plans of making a processor called "Odin" are now said to launch it inside LG's latest phablet called the LG F490L Liger . The Chipset , which is said to use Arm's Big Little design architecture , employs 4 Cortex A15 cores and 4 A7 cores for low power usage , according to preliminary benchmarks the chipset is not really "that impressive" and it sits well below the current crop of high end smartphones .But ,considering that the Liger only has a 1080p resolution on its 5.9" display, a 3000mAh battery and a 13mp rear camera without LG's flashy Laser autoficus  its probably not designed to be a killer smartphone after all ,and even if the benchmarks are low , its still a worthy adversary for all mid range devices once it launches soon . Samsung might announce their 64Bit Exynos 5433 processor tomorrow

Tomorrow we have something new and exciting to show you. Stay tuned! #ExynosTomorrow pic.twitter.com/v5MKk5rhct — SamsungExynos (@SamsungExynos) July 9, 2014 As you may already know , Samsung fabricates their own mobile processors for their smartphones and tablets under the name "Exynos" after many years , the Exynos lineup is mostly used by Samsung for their Asia/Europe 3G models while they use the un-official industry standard Qualcomm Snapdragon processors for 4G versions . After unveiling their Dual-Quad (aka Octa core) Exynos 54xx series , the company is now ready to unveil its successor in the form of a "Octa core" Exynos 5433 , which is said to be the first Exynos processor series to join the 64Bit ARM club. 64Bit processors on mobile devices are not new , Intel has been working with their Intel Atom mobile processors for many years now , and last year Apple jump-started the 64bit processor race with the iPhone 5S and the new iPad's . 128-Bit mobile processors - LOL ...says ARM

“Did you hear the joke about the 128 bit processor?” asked Ian Drew, Chief Marketing Officer and EVP of Business Development at ARM, in a blog post earlier today. This comes as a response to the Korea Herald article claiming that ARM is working on a 128-bit chip for 2015. Mr. Drew firmly discounts any reports that 128-bit chips are in the cards or that ARM execs will in any way reveal what ARM’s partners are doing. “News reports have suggested that ARM is developing 128-bit processor technology: this is not true. 64-bit processors are capable of supporting the needs of the computing industry now and for many years to come. There are absolutely no plans underway for 128 bit ARM-based chips because they simply aren’t needed. Rumors to the contrary are simply incorrect,” says Drew. He goes on to say that the current 32-bit family of ARM chips will be at the core of 10 billion chips this year. ARM is also launching its new ARMv8-A based 64-bit designs, which will soon hit the market....

ARM confirms that a QuadCore A9 processor will power the Huawei Ascend P6s

Just a day after an ARM exec confirmed Samsung's 64-bit Exynos processor and even hinted for 128-bit chips in two years, the company has leaked yet another product of one of its partners. This time it's Huawei who suffered from the ARM indiscretion. Huawei Ascend P6S has recently entered our rumor mill, but so far the information about its chipset has been quite controversial. After Huawei's president confirmed the existence of the Ascend P6S, he said it will feature an octa-core processor. Then yesterday new details pointed at quad-core big.Little SoC instead. Now we know this quad-core chipset will be slightly different. The CPU designer ARM has decided to showcase a device that looks exactly the same as the Huawei Ascend P6, but runs on a new Huawei chipset called HiSilicon Kirin910. According to the product description it features a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor and Mali-450 graphics. This new Kirin910 is promised to provide "perfectly smooth gaming experience...

CuBox-i Series Android mini-PC's are now available for pre-order at $44.99

Earlier this month we mentioned the CuBox-i series small form factor computers when they first surfaced. At the time we knew pretty much all the hardware details on the machines, but we didn’t know exactly how much they would cost or when they would be available. More details have surfaced this week and the computers can be pre-ordered right now. The CuBox-i series includes the i1, i2, i2ultra, and i4pro computers. All versions are based on the Freescale i.MX6 SoC and are available in a variety of configurations. Some configurations use single core processors while dual and quad-core ARM processors operating at 1 GHz are available. The machines support open-source software including the latest versions of Linux in various distributions, XBMC Media Center, and Android 4.2.2. All the machines are packed inside of a very small enclosure measuring 2 x 2 x 2-inches. The entry-level CuBox-i1 uses a single core processor running at 1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM and optional Wi-Fi. Storage is h...

Samsung may be at their final steps in completing a 64 Bit processor for future smartphones

According to a reports by a Korean media outlet, Samsung is into the close to completion of a 64-bit mobile processor intended for use in its own smartphones. The report further speculates that the chip will be first used in the company’s next flagship. The chip will also be used for products beyond smartphones, such as tablets. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Samsung were to use the 64-bit chip in its upcoming line-up of Chromebooks destined for 2014. Shortly after the unveil of the iPhone 5s, Samsung stated that it’s working on a 64-bit CPU, which will find its place in 2014 flagshps. Right now, though, they are still in the sampling stage. Smartphones are quick approaching the 4GB RAM barrier, at which point 64-bit CPUs become a necessity. Rumors are that Android 4.4 KitKat is slated to bring 64-bit support. There is also a probability Samsung unveils a flagship with 4GB of RAM next year, since the Note 3 already has 3GB.( GSMArena )

Computex 2013 - Arm unveils new Cortex A12 processor for mid range devices

CHIP DESIGNER ARM has announced its Cortex A12 processor for midrange devices. ARM's Cortex A15 has been getting all the plaudits as the first chip to support the chip designer's Big Little architecture and has already found its way into the Nexus 10 tablet and some versions of Samsung's Galaxy S4 handset. Now ARM has announced the Cortex A9 for the mainstream market that it pitches as a replacement for its hugely popular Cortex A9 chip. ARM also took the opportunity to announce a new Mali GPU that it hopes will be paired with the Cortex A12 and its other graphics chip, the Mali T622. While the firm pitches the Cortex A12 at the lucrative midrange device market, the Mali T622 has full OpenCL 1.1 and OpenGL ES 3.0 support with the firm touting 50 percent energy efficiency improvements over previous generation Mali T600 series GPUs. However ARM's Cortex A12 addresses the business end of the mobile market, with ARM claiming it is a completely new design based on the...

Apple might hire Intel to make A7 chipsets

Foundry service providers Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Samsung Electronics are reportedly competing for Apple's A7 processor orders. Rumors regarding the possibility of Intel obtaining the orders have also spread. According to institutional investors, Intel may obtain 10% of Apple's A7 processor orders. The patent lawsuits between Samsung and Apple have been heating up, causing the latter to reduce its reliance on the former. Apple has been shifting orders of DRAM, mobile RAM chips and panels away from Samsung. Samsung used to be the sole OEM firm for Apple's processors, but the latter has now begun to issue orders to other firms. TSMC has been said to become the second largest supplier for Apple's A7 processors and production is reportedly to begin in 2014. But recent rumors have spread that Intel may also receive Apple's orders. According to institutional investors, Samsung is likely to receive 50% of the A7 processor orders, TSMC 4...
