Acer Aspire R7

Acer is on hand at IFA 2013 and has pulled the wraps off an updated Aspire R7 notebook. This isn’t a completely new notebook, we reviewed the first generation back in June. The updated notebook still has the fancy Ezel hinge for the screen. That hinge allows the notebook to be used in several modes of use including full tablet mode. The big upgrade for the notebook that Acer is announcing at the show is that the notebook now includes the latest fourth-generation Intel processors and Acer Active Pen to improve the machines touch experience. The updated R7 maintains the same odd touchpad placement and touchscreen configuration as the original. The idea behind the strange touchpad placement is to place the keyboard keys closer to the edge of the notebook making typing more comfortable. The big new feature here is the Acer Active Pen, which allows users to write and draw directly on the screen. The pen uses electromagnetic induction technology and responds to different degrees of p...

Acer announces their mega - 24" all in one Android tablet

The pre-IFA festivities from Acer continue, as the company has just announced the DA241HL, a 24″ Android-powered all-in-one featuring a quad-core Tegra 3 processor. The AiO operates on the Android 4.2 build, which allows you to enjoy the latest games and apps in all their glory on the fullHD 24-inch display. The Tegra 3 chip is usually found in mobile devices, but it makes sense for Acer to put it in this large-screened touch panel as it’s already optimized to work with the Android platform. The 4.2 Android release also features multi-user support, meaning that it can support custom settings and apps for up to 5 individual users. The DA241HL comes with MHL connectivity and an HDMI port, meaning that it can connect to a PC to become a 2-point touch display as well. Look for the Acer DA241HL in mid-October with a starting price of €429.( GSMArena )

Acer Iconia W3 to get updated display due to poor quality of current pannel

Acer reportedly plans to replace the first-gen Iconia W3, the first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet, with an updated version that could address screen complaints, potentially arriving as soon as September this year. The new model is expected to hit stores by the end of this quarter, Acer Netherlands spokesperson Star Swank told Tweakers, and be thinner and lighter than the current Iconia W3. Although Acer didn’t confirm it, the most important change is believed to be in the screen technology. The current Iconia W3 uses a TN-LCD panel which, supports only limited viewing angles, meaning as soon as you start to use the tablet off-center the image quality plummets. On the updated model, however, there’s a switch to IPS instead, which would deliver considerably greater viewing angles. It’s the same display technology as Apple uses on the iPad and Samsung uses on the Nexus 10, both of which have been praised for their screen quality. Acer wouldn’t confirm the IPS switch, but according to ...

Computex 2013 - Acer Iconia W3

We love it when the rumor mill is right. After plenty of speculation and leaks courtesy of Amazon and Acer Russia, the first 8-inch tablet running a full version of Windows 8 has arrived in the form of the Acer Iconia W3. It’ll be available starting June 4 and comes with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 pre-loaded. What makes the Iconia W3 such a big deal? For starters, Acer has taken the attitude of “Screw Windows RT” and put a fully functional version of Windows 8 on this little tablet. This means it’ll run all of the legacy x86 applications that run on every other version of Windows. Acer paired the 8-inch tablet with an optional (grrr) Bluetooth keyboard/case that is about the same size as the one you would find on a 13.3-inch notebook, which means you’ll actually be able to type on it without scrunching your hands into awkward positions. However, if you need to type on the go, Acer has also made the virtual keyboard thumb-typing-friendly. It’ll be available in 32GB and...

Computex 2013 - Acer Liquid S1

This week the folks at Acer have revealed several new Haswell-toting computers and a surprise entry in the mobile world: a brand new “phablet”. This Acer Liquid S1 delivers what Acer itself refers to as a phablet form-factor, bringing a 5.7-inch display with HD 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Inside is a near-vanilla (but not quite) Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience with a quad-core Mediatek processor and 1GB of RAM. This machine is meant to embody Acer’s aim to reach the cloud with a rather unique entry into the handheld mobile environment. This device is being pushed with AcerCloud Docs, allowing documents and files of many different formats to be sent to, viewed, and edited from the smartphone itself. This device also works with wireless display an print features that’ll be ready to roll with 4th generation Intel Core (Haswell) features – WiDi being one of them. One of the more unique features in this phone on top of Android is a “Float User Interface”. This feature has the user ...

Acer W3 -Windows 8 tablet is finally official - pricing will be revealed soon

Acer’s Iconia W3, the first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet, has quietly cropped up at the company’s site, confirming the smaller slate and promising a full eight hours of runtime. Rumored since April, the Acer Iconia W3-810 is now listed on the company’s Finnish site, running full Windows 8 Pro on an Intel Atom Z2760 processor and with an 8.1-inch WXGA screen That chip is paired with 2GB of RAM and up to 64GB of flash storage. The Clover Trail chip has Intel GMA 3650 graphics, driving the 1280 x 768 WXGA multitouch display. Connectivity includes WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and a micro USB 2.0 port; there’s also a microHDMI output for hooking up an external display. A 2-megapixel webcam is also included. That Bluetooth connection could be used for hooking up a wireless keyboard, but Acer will also offer a detachable keyboard dock into which the Iconia W3 will slot. The snap-on ‘board is wider than the tablet itself, which means Acer can include full-sized keys. Acer will offer two va...

Acer Iconia B1 gets a upgrade , second gen will start at €129

Hot on the heels of the brand new Acer Iconia A1, which was just announced a few days ago, comes the second-generation Acer Iconia B1 with an updated design, improved specs, and optional 3G connectivity. It now sports a look similar to that of Acer’s more expensive, high-end tablets, and yet it’s aimed squarely at the entry-level market. The new Iconia B1 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor from MediaTek, the same 7-inch WSVGA display from the previous model, 1GB RAM, and choices of either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. The Iconia B1 used to be good enough, but now it’s merely good. Acer worked its way through one whole word. And that’s progress. Acer plans on releasing the Wi-Fi-only version of the Iconia B1 first in Europe, Middle East and Africa starting in mid-June with a €129 price tag. Meanwhile, the 3G-enabled version will be sold for €179. Read the full press release below for all of the details.
