CES 2014 - ZTE's new lineup

ZTE is set to grab some serious attention this year at CES, announcing five new Android phones and the company’s very first smartwatch – the ZTE BlueWatch. The announcement from ZTE is more of a tease for what’s to come at CES, but we were given a few details regarding the features that ZTE’s new devices will offer. Grand S2 ZTE Grand S II Listed as ZTE’s latest high-end Android phone, the ZTE Grand S II is the first device to offer ZTE’s very own voice control technology, enabling voice recognition unlocking and “voice-to-phone photography.” ZTE did note that the grand S II will feature triple-MIC noise reduction for improved voice calling, but they failed to mention the size of the display and processor. Nubia 5S mini ZTE nubia 5S and nubia 5S mini Both devices come with “screaming-fast” quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and “professional-grade” camera hardware. ZTE Open will be available for $80 unlocked on ebay

In a strange move by ZTE, the company is planning to sell its latest handset in the US and UK by listing it on eBay. Of course, this wouldn’t the first time that companies have resorted to eBay for selling their products, but it’s interesting to see a mobile phone maker sell their devices directly through eBay instead of their own website. The phone is called the ZTE Open, and it will feature the Firefox OS, making it one of the first of several such devices to release in the US. The phone will be sold exclusively in orange for just $80 unlocked. And because it’s unlocked, Mozilla says that the phone won’t come with any local apps or features, meaning no bloatware! Why the aim to sell on eBay, though? Essentially, it’s all about bringing the ZTE Open to more consumers around the world, and the low price point and availability on eBay should give more customers the opportunity to purchase the new phone and use it how they see fit. The name of device really says it all. The UK pr...

Google video shows a new 7" tablet ...made by ZTE

A suspected glimpse of what was at first believed to be a brand new version of the Nexus 7 has instead been revealed to be a tablet made by ZTE. Inside a Google-made promotion for Google Maps exploring Central Park appeared a little-known 7-inch tablet that could very well have been Google’s next-generation handheld tablet. Just this morning, though, the truth has come out. While the possibility of a new Nexus 7 – probably with a new name, mind you – is still in the mix for this summer season, the tablet in this video is actually a ZTE machine. The ZTE Optik is a black and grey 7-inch display-toting tablet working with Android 3.2 Honeycomb. It’s got a relatively large bezel, as you can see, and comes in at 7.63 inches tall by 4.72 inches wide, with a depth of 0.45 inches You’ll find this tablet appearing at right around 0:53 into the video. In short – this device looked interesting enough to be used for this Google video spot, but it’s certainly a step down – or at least to th...

ZTE Grand X2 packs a 2Ghz Intel chipset

In Monaco earlier today, ZTE officially unveiled its ZTE Grand X2 In Intel-powered flagship smartphone, once again eschewing its stigma of peddling lower-end handsets by offering an all-around high end smartphone slated for release in Europe this autumn for an unspecified amount. There’s no word yet whether this handset will make its way to the US. Perhaps the ZTE Grand X2 In’s greatest claim to fame is the hardware found under its hood – a dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 2GHz processor, as well as 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM (storage expansion available via microSD up to 32GB). The Intel-Inside aspect aside, the handset also has a higher-end display, measuring in at 4.5-inches with an HD 1280 x 720 resolution. The phone runs Android Jelly Bean. Another notable feature on the Grand X2 In is its 8-megapixel rear camera, which – in addition to offering 1080p recording – also features a rapid-shot mode capable of up to 24-frames-per-second without shutter lag. There’s also smart scene...

5" ZTE Quantum might be heading for Sprint

Sprint is testing a device from ZTE tentatively called the Quantum with model number N8910, Android Police learned recently. The Quantum has mid to high-end specs with its 5" 720p screen, a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4, a 13MP camera, NFC, and Sprint's 4G LTE. The device runs Android 4.1.2, which isn't currently the latest iteration of Android, but in line with most newer devices on the market today outside of the Nexus line and the Galaxy S4. The lack of 2GB of RAM, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and something like an S4 Pro (or newer) upgrade separate the Pro from the current flagships, but then again - did anyone really expect a ZTE phone on Sprint to suddenly blow everyone else out of the water? Here's the full rundown of the specs we were able to gather from the anonymous tipster and the set of AnTuTu benchmark screens: 5" 720p screen (320 dpi) with "terribad viewing angles," according to our tipster Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 @ 1.5GHz wit...

ZTE will use the Atom Z2580 processor in future smartphones

ZTE today announced plans to embed the new Intel Atom Z2580 processor into its future smartphones. ZTE has already released at least one smartphone, the Grand X IN, with Intel processors inside. Intel revealed the dual-core Z2580 chip earlier this year. It offers clock speeds up to 2.0GHz per core and uses Hyper-Threading to help with multitasking. Intel claims the Z2580 delivers twice the computing power and three times the graphics performance of its predecessor while drawing the same amount of power. ZTE's news today follows an announcement it made several weeks ago wherein it promised to deliver a "super phone" based on the NVIDIA Tegra 4 platform before the middle of the year. ZTE didn't share any details of the device other than to say it will also use NVIDIA's i500 LTE modem. NVIDIA and Intel are both looking to steal marketshare from Qualcomm and its Snapdragon-branded mobile processors via - AndroidAuthority/PhoneScoop)

ZTE U9810 might come with a Dual Core processor and (wait for it) 4GB of RAM

According to GizChina, ZTE is working on a U9810 phone that’s going to pack 4 GB of RAM. Uhm, what?!? Four? Why not 14? Or 40? It would sound equally as insane, and, to be frank, as useless and idiotic.Have you ever held a phone with 1 gig of RAM in your hands? We have, plenty of them in fact. And most of them are blazing fast and awesome when it comes to multitasking. We’ve even spent some quality time with phones packing 2 GB of RAM and, in a nutshell, they’re smooth no matter how many different apps you run at a time. But if you’re still not convinced 4 GB of random-access memory is a bad idea, let’s see what other features this ZTE U9810 is expected to rock. We’ve got a 5-inch 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution panel and a 1.7 GHz unnamed dual-core processor Oh, yeah, a 720p screen and a dual-core CPU would definitely benefit from being coupled with 4 gigs of RAM (that was sarcasm, mmkay?). But let’s back up for a second. How do we know this ZTE phone will come with these specs? We ...
