Lexar - a household brand for storage options  has now decided to shut its doors down after Lexar's parent company - Micron pulled the plug on the brand deeming it to not be as profitable as expected . The memory industry , which is a multi billion dollar industry has so far produced many giants such as Sandisk , Kingston , Sony and many others who have provided various memory solutions ranging from Micro SD cards for Smartphones , SD cards , Compact flash CF , thumb drives , SSD's etc .Lexar , who has been selling its products with most of its consumer products to the photographic community (cards and card readers) will longer sell any Lexar products to customers (although their corporate memory solutions are being sold to Amazon , Google etc . Micron has interests in selling off a portion of its business to potential buyers and therefore if you  plan on buying any Lexar products soon (including their super expensive 500GB CF card unveiled recently) , do it soon a...

Sony has unveiled the fastest SD card available right now . The new SF-G series , made on the UHS-II standard is capable of 299 MB/s write and 300 MB/s read speed off the chip . Although the bus speed is not insanely high as the newly announced UHS III standard (which is not available yet) ,the UHS II is still capable of working well with every 4K capable device yet . The cards also come with a reader - Sony MRW -S1 which is a USB Type C (3.1) capable reader for all modern devices . SD card association has announced the worlds fastest SD card speed with the announcement of the UHS III standard which is currently double the speed of UHS II cards which cap out at 300MB/s . The new standard , which brings bus speeds of 624MB/s , according to them , will be for future Virtual Reality systems (VR) and 8K recording devices . As for now , Current cameras and memory devices will support only UHS II speeds and therefore will be unable to take full advantage of the card , but future devices which will record 6K and 8K will surely have support for them . via - Dpreview

Sandisk has unveiled a new USB drive which apparently claims to work at 380Mb/s write speed and 420mb/s reading speeds -introducing the new Sandisk Extreme Pro USB 3.1 -This drive , available in 128GB and 256GB can probably get through a full length  4K video in about 15 seconds flat. The drive also has SecureAccess software which protects your drive with a 128-bit encrypted password and recover accidentally deleted files with Sandisk's RescuePro Deluxe software . Kingston - a household name when it come to storage solutions such as USB drives and SD cards has unveiled a 2TB USB stick for all your portable memory needs .The new Data Traveler Ultimate GT packs the said storage in a shell that is 72mm x 26.9mm x 21mm which is temperature resistant up to -40c and 85c .
