Computex 2013 - ASUS unveils the new Poseidon Formula 1 Republic of Gamers rig

ASUS cannot get enough of Computex, and today its PC gaming arm is rolling out some high powered new kit. This is the Poseidon Formula 1, housing the apex of ROG's gaming hardware know-how and brandishing its new Poseidon GTX 700 series GPU. It pairs NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 700 graphics series with a hybrid cooling system, with ASUS' CoolTech combing blower and axial fans into one design, forcing air over the heatsink in multiple directions. Augmenting this is a liquid cooling that ROG promises can reduce operating temperatures by up to 31 degrees Celsius, likely ensuring some impressive overclocking feats. The system is built upon ROG's new Maximus VI motherboard that packes even more thermal cooling assistance and the company's SupremeFX audio card which will give gamers 120dB headphone output with a 600 Ohm headphone amplifier to improve volume and clarity. Toshiba has announced a variety of new products, among them being three new Excite tablets offering Tegra 3 and 4 processors and high-resolution displays. The slates are all set to be available online the end of this month, and will hit major retailer shelves in July. We’ve got a gallery, as well as the specs, after the jump. The three new tablets are comprised of the Excite Pure, Excite Pro, and Excite Write. All three of them are adorned with 10.1-inch displays, two of which (Excite Pro and Excite Write) are Toshiba’s PixelPure 2560 x 1600 Retina-competitors. Likewise, all of them run Android Jelly Bean 4.2, and feature respectively a touchscreen digitizer (Excite Write), Harman Kardon speaker, and, best of all, NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors (Pro and Write). The Excite Pure features a Tegra 3. Speaking of the Excite Write specifically, the addition of a touchscreen digitizer aims it at digital artists and others who require a more precise touch than the average tablet offers. Toshi...

Computex 2013 -Mozilla /Foxconn Firefox OS tablet

The long-rumoured Firefox OS-powered tablet has now been made official. Revealed at a Foxconn press event during Computex 2013 in Taipei, the tablet emerged sat on a desk next to a Foxconn employee. While there are absolutely no details whatsoever as to the tablet's internal specifications, its presence is definitely confirmation of Firefox's tablet plans. Irritating that we can't know more, but we have reached out to Mozilla and will be posting more the moment we know it. Foxconn just announced a partnership with Mozilla in order to help push and produce its Firefox OS powered smartphones and tablets. This just-revealed tablet could be one of the first devices that Foxconn produces. From the pictures, the tablet looks to have an 8 or 10-inch screen, but doesn't appear quite as high resolution as some of the flagship competition. This, however, is just speculation and could turn out to be quite the opposite. "Currently, Foxconn is executing on a vision ...

Computex 2013 - ASUS VivoMouse

Asus is launching its latest PC peripheral today: VivoMouse. The name makes it sound like an ordinary wireless mouse, but this particular device features a desktop touchpad with multi-touch support. It closely resembles the look of Motorola's Aura handset, with a metallic body and curved shapes. Asus describes it as the 'world's first' combination of a mouse and touchpad, with the option to be used with a desktop PC or projector scenarios and living room TVs thanks to its thumb control with the circular touchpad. It comes complete with support for Windows 7 and Windows 8, with swipe gestures to control the Charms and multitasking of Microsoft's new OS. There's also an option to scroll with two fingers and pinch-to-zoom. The touchpad will act like the buttons on a traditional mouse, even when it's not be...

Computex 2013 - ASUS MeMo Pad HD7 (Update)

ASUS made another big announcement at Computex Taiwan 2013 this week. The company introduced the ASUS MeMo Pad HD 7, an HD version of yesteryear’s budget tablet that we just reviewed. This particular tablet introduces 720p HD resolution, and while its specs don’t jump out at us on paper, the price tag does — you will be able to buy this in 8GB or 16GB configurations for $129 or $150, respectively. This is good news for folks who felt ASUS’ previous ultra-budget offerings were a bit lacking.  For those prices, you’re getting an Android 4.0 tablet that has a quad-core ARM 7 chipset, 1280×800 resolution, a 5 megapixel camera on the rear, a 1.2 megapixel camera on the front, SonicMaster audio technology, and more. By ASUS’ own admission, this tablet is aimed right at developing markets. We’re not sure if that means we can expect launches in, erm, developed markets as well, but considering they announced the price in US dollars we imagine there’s a slight chance of that happenin...

Computex 2013 - ASUS Transformer Book Trio (Updated)

If you thought ASUS was done announcing new products here at Computex, get ready for at least one more surprise. The company just unveiled the Transformer Book Trio, a so-called three-in-one device that combines bits of the laptop, desktop and tablet experience. At first glance, it sounds similar in concept to the Aspire R7 desktop-laptop-tablet that recently came out, but in fact, ASUS has taken a different tack altogether. This guy runs both Windows and Android. If you're wondering how that works, dual operating systems basically amounts to dual processors, with a fourth-generation Core i7 processor powering the Windows 8 experience, and an Intel Atom Z2580  chip handling Android Jelly Bean.Battery wise you get a 33Wh cell as well as a 19Wh one. As for storage, you've got a 1TB HDD inside the dock, and 64GB of flash storage inside the tablet. Pricing of this tablet is still not available but  the company stated that  this tablet will beavailable  in Q3 of ...

Computex 2013 - ASUS MeMO Pad FHD 10

ASUS has just unveiled a new tablet, and it marks the return of the MeMo Pad series. This one is a 10-inch, 9.5mm-thick slab, housing both a dual-core, 1.6GHz Intel processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean -- another Clover Trail+ powered tablet from the Taiwanese company. Perhaps just as notable is the inclusion of a 1,920 x 1,200 backlit 10-inch screen -- one that performed just as admirably as other ASUS tablets we've tested in the past. We're promised 10 hours of use from the 25Wh battery, with all the requisite Bluetooth (3.0), WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n) and GPS built in. There are also dual speakers but we're waiting to confirm if this means stereo sound. It'll arrive in two configurations: 16GB and 32GB. The tablet, which will arrive in dark blue and white, weighs just 580g  (Engadget/Mobilegeeks.de)

Computex 2013 - Arm unveils new Cortex A12 processor for mid range devices

CHIP DESIGNER ARM has announced its Cortex A12 processor for midrange devices. ARM's Cortex A15 has been getting all the plaudits as the first chip to support the chip designer's Big Little architecture and has already found its way into the Nexus 10 tablet and some versions of Samsung's Galaxy S4 handset. Now ARM has announced the Cortex A9 for the mainstream market that it pitches as a replacement for its hugely popular Cortex A9 chip. ARM also took the opportunity to announce a new Mali GPU that it hopes will be paired with the Cortex A12 and its other graphics chip, the Mali T622. While the firm pitches the Cortex A12 at the lucrative midrange device market, the Mali T622 has full OpenCL 1.1 and OpenGL ES 3.0 support with the firm touting 50 percent energy efficiency improvements over previous generation Mali T600 series GPUs. However ARM's Cortex A12 addresses the business end of the mobile market, with ARM claiming it is a completely new design based on the...

Computex 2013 - Acer Iconia W3

We love it when the rumor mill is right. After plenty of speculation and leaks courtesy of Amazon and Acer Russia, the first 8-inch tablet running a full version of Windows 8 has arrived in the form of the Acer Iconia W3. It’ll be available starting June 4 and comes with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 pre-loaded. What makes the Iconia W3 such a big deal? For starters, Acer has taken the attitude of “Screw Windows RT” and put a fully functional version of Windows 8 on this little tablet. This means it’ll run all of the legacy x86 applications that run on every other version of Windows. Acer paired the 8-inch tablet with an optional (grrr) Bluetooth keyboard/case that is about the same size as the one you would find on a 13.3-inch notebook, which means you’ll actually be able to type on it without scrunching your hands into awkward positions. However, if you need to type on the go, Acer has also made the virtual keyboard thumb-typing-friendly. It’ll be available in 32GB and...

Computex 2013 - Acer Liquid S1

This week the folks at Acer have revealed several new Haswell-toting computers and a surprise entry in the mobile world: a brand new “phablet”. This Acer Liquid S1 delivers what Acer itself refers to as a phablet form-factor, bringing a 5.7-inch display with HD 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Inside is a near-vanilla (but not quite) Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience with a quad-core Mediatek processor and 1GB of RAM. This machine is meant to embody Acer’s aim to reach the cloud with a rather unique entry into the handheld mobile environment. This device is being pushed with AcerCloud Docs, allowing documents and files of many different formats to be sent to, viewed, and edited from the smartphone itself. This device also works with wireless display an print features that’ll be ready to roll with 4th generation Intel Core (Haswell) features – WiDi being one of them. One of the more unique features in this phone on top of Android is a “Float User Interface”. This feature has the user ...

New Google Nexus 7 to be revealed at Computex?

A new report suggests that Asus could unveil the new Nexus 7 model at Computex in a few days. From the start, we’ll tell you to take this particular rumor with a huge chunk of salt, as the source isn’t really providing that many details to work with. What IBN Live says is that “analysts” expect the company to unveil the device during the show, but it doesn’t make it clear what analysts think the new 7-inch Nexus tablet will be shown in Taipei, Taiwan, or what makes them think it will happen. The publication writes: Those waiting for a refresh of the Nexus line of tablets could be in for some great news in the coming week. Analysts expect Asus to launch a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet at the Computex trade fair which will be held from June 4 to 8, 2013 in Taipei. Presumably, it’s CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets’s Chitra Gopal one of those analysts. Gopal also expects Asus and Acer to “showcase new low-end [Android] tablets” at the show. The devices would be priced between $100 and $150 an...

Asus shows off a new toy teaser - 6" Transformer phablet with stylus ?

As Computex approaches, so too do the teasers for devices like this action-figure representation of a device ASUS will be showing off. Here the proof is in the pudding as the letters N6-TE tie in with ASUS common past and the Android toy itself. It begins with the letter N and the toy has the most easily recognizable representation of a pen – this means the device will have a “note” functionality and more than likely a capacitive pen built-in. As the ASUS FonePad we saw earlier this year  worked with a Nexus 7 form factor and the ability to make telephone calls appeared, so did ASUS’ willingness to make said calls on multiple devices. This new N6 machine shows its ability to work as a telephone with the Android toy’s right arm – again, in as obvious a manner as possible showing that it works as a phone. As this toy teaser is called DROID MARK II, there’s also the possibility that this machine is mean to be the FonePad II, bringing with it a 6-inch display rather than a 7 an...
