Nikon Z9 officially Launched (along with Lens announcements)

Nikon Z9 Nikon has officially launched their flagship Mirrorless camera - the Z9. The camera, which in some ways takes over the position of the D6 as the era of DSLR's slowly wind down boasts a 45.7MP sensor with no mechanical shutter, 8K recording and 120fps shooting. The Z9 features a Full frame 45.7MP Stacked CMOS sensor with 493 AF points and has Hybrid Phase detection AF. The sensor has a sensitivity of ISO 64 to 25600 (32-102400 expandable) and considering that has an electronic shutter, it can reach 1/32000 shutter speed (max) and if you want to use a flash it can hit a maximum of 1/800 through HSS (high speed sync) . The sensor features IBIS and with VR enabled lenses, it can hit 6 stops of vibration compensation and it has a Vibration Lock to protect the sensor and the mechanism if it detects high levels of vibration or unintentional drops. Nikon lists a few F mount lenses as "old product" - Is this the end for the F mount?

Nikon - Once a dominating power in the Camera duopoly and a pioneer in optics has been faithful to its F mount since its inception in 1958 and all cameras from the SLR film era and right upto the modern flagship D6 used this with optics and the electronics within them being the only factor of change. But in the age of Mirrorless, the F mount seemed to be "too small" and thus it was replaced by the Z mount with cameras sporting the new mount receiving mixed response from the shrinking Nikon fanbase.  But as with all modern changes, change is never fast and many prefer to remain in the DSLR realm as long as possible unless Nikon "kills off" production - which was certainly expected but now  with the current "crisis" affecting the industry hard, Nikon is accelerating the process by listing the following lenses as "Old product"  - Which would indicate that the following lenses are no longer in production and are available till stocks last.   AF-S Nik...

Kinefinity Mavo Cine primes

Kinefinity  announced their new line of MAVO Cinema lenses with  25mm , 35mm,50mm ,75mm and a 100mm focal lengths and T2.0 aperture , The lenses come with a 12 bladed iris and the lens optics have a 46.5mm image circle diameter - making it ideal for any large format (35mm) cinema cameras (Alexa LF , Red Monster WW, Canon's C700FF  and the Sony Venice . Kinefinity also hopes to announce their own development plans for a 35mm FF camera which is currently called the Mavo LF . Fujinon MKX18-55mm t2.9 / MKX 50-135mm T2.9

Fuji has officially released two new lens mount options for their MK 18-55mm t2.9 and MK 50-135mm t2.9 cinema lenses . The new duo , designed for the Fuji X mount , are released in the same timeframe as the Fuji X-H1 , indicating that Fuji is indeed making a serious push into video. Both The MKX 18-55mm t2.9 and the MK 50-135mm t2.9 – feature 22 glass elements in 17 groups and it has six super ED lens elements and two ED lens elements as well , Both lenses have a 9 bladed iris , allowing for more rounded “bokeh” in your videos . Both lenses feature a minimum aperture of f2.8 and they can be manually stopped down to f22(keep in mind that these lenses are all manual ) . Pricing for the MKX 18-55mm t2.9 is $3,999 while the MK 50-135mm t2.9 costs $4,299 , not bad considering their low price , both lenses will ship in Summer of 2018 . Zeiss Loxia 25mm f2.4

Zeiss has officially announced a new compact -manual focus prime lens for their FE mount Loxia range , the new Loxia 25mm f2.4 is the fifth member of the lineup which consists of a 21mm F2.8, 35mm F2, 50mm F2, and a 85mm F2.4. The lens , designed with great precision , features 10 elements in 8 groups and features 1 APD element and 2 Aspherical elements with a special T* nanocoating . Sony 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS

Sony has officially released a new zoom lens for their APS-C E-Mount cameras . The new 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 features Sony’s Optical Steady Shot (OSS) as well as a quiet linear motor for silent AF . The lens ,designed for cameras such as the A6000/6300/6500 and possibly a future A5xxx successor will give an equivalent focus range of 27-202.5mm (35mm eqv) . The lens weighs 326g and has 16 elements in 12 groups (including 2 ED elements ) and has a 7 bladed aperture system . Pricing for the new lens is said to be about $600 . Samyang AF 14mm F2.8 EF

Samyang has officially announced their first Autofocus lens for Canon EF . The new lens - a 14mm f2 aperture lens features smooth and quiet AF without breaking much bank (compared to Canon’s offering ) . Featuring 12 elements in 10 groups with 2 aspherical ,1 ED and 4 high refractive lenses will also feature a weather resistant metal body . NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm F/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR SUPER TELEPHOTO ZOOM

Nikon has officially announced their new Nikkor 180-400mm f4E TC1.4 FL ED VR super telephoto lens . The new glass ,which comes with a rather long name tag actually the first to feature a 1.4x teleconverter built in . The teleconverter , which extends the range of this already extreme zoom lens will give a 252-560mm eqv field of view on a FX system or 378-840mm on a DX camera (with the 1.4x teleconverter on) . The F4 aperture , which is excellent for such super-zoom lenses also has a 9 bladed aperture inside and a 4 stop VR compensation . The lens features 27 elements in 19 groups (8 ED , 1 FL , and fluorine coatings on the elements) . The lens barrel - made out of a magnesium alloy will give the lens a total weight of 3.5Kg . Yongnuo 14mm f2.8

Yongnuo has officially announced a 14mm f2.8 fish-eye lens for the Canon EF mount . The new lens , designed as a cheaper alternative to similar lenses from Canon and other third parties feature an f2.8 aperture , full manual and autofocus/manual control and a 7 bladed aperture for rounder Bokeh (Even Canon's own $2000+ 14mm f2.8 II version has 6 blades ) .  The lens , designed with 12 elements in 9 groups offer a not so silent autofocus motor as well  .  Although the lens is probably set to appeal to novice shooters who shy away from Canon's pricy offering , the lens does have one ace up its sleeve as the Micro USB port on the lens allows it to work with future firmware updates . Tamron 100-400mm f4.5-6.3 announced

Tamron has officially announced their 100-400mm f4.5-6.3 super-telephoto lens for Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras . The new lens , aimed at sports and wildlife shooters is a cost effective option as it costs $800 . The lens , which features  Tamron's eBAND nanocoating for reducing lens flaring and ghosting consists of   17 elements in 11 groups also features 3 LD(low dispersion) elements and a 9 bladed aperture diaphragm . Weighing in at 1115g (1.1Kg or 39.3oz) the lens is somewhat lighter than some competing lenses of the same range as it uses magnesium parts in key areas of the lens . There is also a metallic lens foot with an Arca swiss style mount and this is an optional accessory for this lens . Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f1.2 PRO and 45mm f1.2 PRO lenses announced

Olympus has officially announced 2 premium lenses for the Micro 4/3 system . The new M.Zuiko 17mm and 45mm  are both f1.2 aperture lenses and are designed to offer resistance against the elements , good bokeh and image quality . The 17mm f1.2  - which equals to about a 35mm in full frame terms features a Extra low dispersion ED-DSA element and features 15 elements in 11 groups with 2 aspherical elements . The lens features a 9 bladed aperture diaphragm and a focus by wire AF system which can be disengaged and controlled in full time manual focus by pulling the ring backwards . The lens , which has a weight of 310g is light enough for most work and thanks to IBIS - in body image stabilization on Olympus (and some Panasonic) bodies , the stabilization can be compensated internally . Sigma has officially announced their latest lens for mirrorless cameras . The new 16mm DC DN for Sony E mount and Micro four thirds is a f1.4 aperture lens designed to take advantage of the crop factor on the Sony and Micro 4/3 camera systems and therefore the 16mm lens offers a (Full frame) equivalent - 32mm field of view on Panasonic , Olympus and other Micro 4/3 cameras and 24mm on Sony E APS-C cameras with a 1.5x crop . New 7Artisians 50mm f1.0 lens may be in the works.

Most of you may have not heard about the 7Artisians lens manufacturing company from China . The company , which makes affordable quality lenses for some time now is now rumored to be preparing a new 50mm f1.0 lens for all those who need a race to the bottom in the f stop race . The upcoming lens , which is said to be available for $370 for Sony E , M4/3 and Fuji mirrorless cameras is reasonably priced considering its f1 lowest aperture setting , being a manual focus lens , the lens will benefit greatly from focus peaking on mirrrorless cameras and considering that 7Artisian lenses are already sold on Amazon and Ebay , getting one will be quite easy once the lens is officially launched .
