Google play edition - G Pad 8.3 and HTC One M8 get Android 5.1

Android 5.1 is now available for Google Play edition (GPE) LG G Pad 8.3 and the HTC One M8 , both devices are part of the Google play edition program which was launched from 2013 to 2014 with several manufacturers porting their flagship devices into stock Android for Google's online store . The LG G Pad 8.3 - a Snapdragon 600 equipped 8.3" tablet is only available as a Wifi model and therefore the update is just 203MB . The HTC One M8 on the other hand gets a update of about 244MB which can be installed over the air , The Android 5.1 update is said to feature new security updates including several bug fixes , but due to its close launch cycle , many manufacturers who apply custom skins on devices are slow to dish out updates (even to Android 5.0) and therefore owners who buy either a Nexus device or a GPE device are probably one of the lucky few to get it without going for the rooting option . HTC's One M8 - Google play edition is no longer available

It looks like Google has finally pulled the plug on GPE devices , the HTC One M8 -the Taiwanese company's 2014 flagship was effectively the last GPE standing as all other devices from Samsung , Sony , Motorola  and LG are now removed .The phone , which was basically a stock Android running device didn't appeal to general smartphone consumers as the high list price and the lack of OEM features not found in Stock Android were scrubbed over .Although things look bleak for GPE's there is still hope , HTC is planning to launch the successor to the current model - One M9 next month ,so this removal might just be a routine clean-up of the inventory . HTC silently anounces its quietly brilliant M8 Eye with 13 mp cameras

HTC , a company that is praised for its rich designs and quality build received a lot of negative press after they decided to put their ultrapixel cameras on their 2014 flagship. The ultra pixel sensor is basically a enhanced 4 megapixel sensor that has a large aperture to collect more light to create a richer image and good low light photos , but the system , which is almost a year now is no longer feasible to put on any device so HTC ultimately unveiled a 13mp sensor to replace it in future smartphones like the E8 and the Desire Eye .   The Original flagship of the year - The HTC M8 has a dual ultrapixel sensor unit to capture depth perception , but with more and more of HTC's own devices shifting to the 13mp unit , the company decided to launch a updated version (In China) of the HTC M8 called the HTC M8 Eye , which is basically a reference to the Desire Eye launched yesterday . The phone is not made official as of now , but it has been put on a Chinese website as a Pre order i...

Samsung's Ice Bucket challenge might have accidentally backfired ...

The ALS Ice Bucket challenge is probably the biggest internet sensation since the Harlem shake , the process , which involves the participant(s) pouring water with ice cubes while naming 3 other competitors while donating some amount for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in the process, at first the competition was reserved for the elite , but soon after everyone and their brother took up the challenge as a form of entertainment and all the while managed to generate $80 million for  ALS research.Samsung , which spends billions on advertising annually , decided to use the event to promote the Galaxy S5's waterproofness by doing its own icebucket challnge last Friday . The 15 second video , which consisted of a mounted Galaxy S5 and a S-Voice "voice over" and ice in a pail showed off the waterproof abilities of the Galaxy S5 which remained  soaking wet from the ice water drop and afterwards it(the voice) challenged the iPhone 5S , HTC One M8 and the Nokia Lumia 930 to d...

Some Google Play edition smartphones and tablets meet the axe

Google Play devices wern't successful as Google hoped them to be . The traditional handsets without custom interfaces were sold at original cost and the prices rarely dropped , and though it was technically a Nexus , the update schedule fell into the hands of the equipment manufacturer .The Google play edition phones however are still available , but some old models have been replaced as of today . The Sony Xperia ZU ,HTC One M7 and LG's GPad 8.3 are axed from Google's store while the 2013 Motorola Moto G google play edition is still kept alive . The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google play edition will be replaced by the S5 Google play edition once it arrives . The S5 GPE will join the ranks along side the HTC One M8 GPE and the Moto G in the Google Play store , but hopefully ,other OEM's will send their successors to the store once they are available Written by Rakitha for MasHD Article may be used in other blogs, but please be sure to link this article as a source GSMAre...

HTC One E8 packs all the flagship goodness into a $450 price

HTC officially announced their slightly affordable version of the HTC One M8 dubbed HTC One E8 . The phone looks a bit like the HTC One M7 from last year but it comes with a polycarbonate shell .The HTC One E8 basically has the same internal specs as the flagship , but the camera , and the pricing has been altered to match the $450 list price  . For better or for worse , The HTC One E8 skips the 4megapixel "Ultrapixel" madness HTC has been carrying out for two years , and in return , the Main camera has been replaced by a single 13MP camera with a f2.2aperture and 1080p recording . The camera flash has been reduced to a single LED and it does not have the Optical image stabilization feature present in the One M series . The front camera has been left untouched and it still has a wide angle 5mp sensor at the front . The display of the E8 has the same 1080 p resolution of its Premium brother , the display is protected by Gorilla glass 3 and it has 441ppi . The dual fr...

HTC rumored to produce a plastic version of the M8

The HTC One M8 is a serious looker , the unibody design and the metal build gives the user a sense of luxury and sophistication , but with the recent economic downturn , the company is rumored to shift to a more economic solution by making a plastic version of the HTC One M8 .According to the report, the HTC One M8 is currently sold for 5299 ($853) in China ,the plastic version however is said to cost around half the price at ($483). The phone 's internals are said to be the same , except for the build quality ,the plastic/polycarbonate will surely require less engineering and production costs and it will follow and feels similar to the previous HTC One X and the Desire 601 .Overall , a switch to plastic will surely help the Taiwanese company regain some lost profits and make the M8 a attractive option over other flagships because of its hopefully affordable undercut price Source - SlashGear

Demand for HTC One M8's overwhelm its supply lines ,

The HTC One M8 is one of the most anticipated devices of this year , the device was put on sale right after launch unlike its competitors and this has now caused a few issues in supply of the device because , according to the latest reports from Taiwan ,the demand for the M8 has overwhelmed the supply of the device . The Taiwanese(Asia specific)HTC M8 has a 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 801 processor rather than the 2.3 Ghz Snapdragon 801 processor used in the European and American versions of the same phone. The device costs NTD 21900 which is about $720. Although the news source didn't mention the number of units sold and demanded by customers , the news shouldn't be surprising because Taiwan after all , is HTC's home turf . GSMArena
