MasHD Autonews - Audi shows off self driving car , Powered by Nvidia Tegra K1 mobile processor

Just after Nvidia showed off details about their new Tegra Erista mobile processor for 2015 , Audi -which has been a partner with Nvidia since 2012 , rolled a self driving car onto stage .The car , which uses a improved version of the Tegra K1 "Logan" mobile processor was used to demonstrate the processing power of the Nvidia chipset , while showing off Audi's own ingenuity .Previous self driving cars from Audi and other manufacturers used banks of computers where all were stacked in the trunk making the car look more like a experimental vehicle . The new system , using the K1 has a small side pocket where the mobile CPU and its motherboard are kept hidden from view .The K1 cpu however is custom tailored for Audi, but the chip's main  5 Core A15 cores design and the 192 Kepler GPU cores are kept unchanged . The chip runs at  a clockspeed of 2.3Ghz and it has a 8GB LPDDR3 memory . Unlike smartphones , the Audi CPU pocket can be removed and upgraded by simply pluggin...

Nvidia Tegra "Erista" will pack Maxwell GPU , 64Bit architecture

After the announcement of Nvidia's Tegra K1 , aka Logan at CES in January , the chip company didn't reveal any further details about their next mobile cpu. Along with the announcement of the Pascal GPU architecture ,Nvidia announced details about the next generation Tegra mobile processor codenamed Tegra Erista .If you are into comics , Erista is the Son of Logan , And Logan in Nvidia's case is the codename for Nvidia Tegra K1 ,The K1 was the first Tegra chip to feature the 192 Kepler GPU cores and was designed using the 64Bit ARMV8 architecture .Erista on the other hand also uses the ARMV8 64Bit design , but the Erista uses Nvidia's Maxwell GPU , the Maxwell GPU cores were announced in 2013 , but now it seems the GPU technology has shifted to mobile use . The Tegra Erista will support DirectX 12 and will also support Unreal Engine 4 for mobile . The chipset is due for launch in 2015 (hopefully at CES next January),The Tegra K1 is scheduled for launch in Q2 of this...

GTC 2013 - Nvidia Tegra 5 "Logan"

This week NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang spoke up at their GPU Technology Conference on the future of the mobile processor known as Tegra and has teased what will likely be called “Tegra 5″. Running through what we’d already learned about the Tegra 2, Tegra 3, and the upcoming Tegra 4, Huang let us know that the next code-name “Logan” would be breaking boundaries once again. The next Tegra processor will, according to Huang, do “everything a modern computer should do. Speaking on how they created the idea of a single energy-saving core – seen first in the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor – with 4-PLUS-1 technology, sleeping with this one sleeper core for low-powered tasks. Huang spoke also of the first software-defined radio – Deep Execution Processor – and the Computational Camera using both the CPU and the GPU with the sensors of the mobile camera – introduced on the Tegra 4. Inside Logan we’ll be seeing CUDA 5 and Kepler. This is the first time we’ve seen a mobile processor inc...
