Nokia is readying its next Windows Phone update, Lumia Black, which will build on Microsoft’s GDR3 with a number of new features for its existing WP8 range. Nokia Camera will be released for the company’s 9-series and 10-series handsets, as well as Nokia’s more affordable models; in fact, as long as they run Windows Phone 8, they’ll get the Lumia Black update. “This will happen later on, it won’t happen immediately” Nokia explained to us. “Some of the key updates for Windows Phone are in GDR3, so the notifications, some of the underpinnings behind it will come through across all devices and be combined together with the Black update.” “And we’ll have stuff like Nokia Camera, Storyteller, the lock-screen will be integrated as well – it will be even...

Nokia Lumia 2520 - Nokia's first 10.1" tablet with Windows RT (UPDATED)

Nokia has revealed its much-anticipated Windows RT tablet, the Nokia Lumia 2520, a 10.1-inch slate pairing the distinctive and colorful design of the company’s Windows Phone range with LTE as standard and a suite of homegrown apps. Revealed today at Nokia’s Dubai event, the Lumia 2520 has a special Full HD display that runs at up to 650 Nits brightness for outdoor usability, and will come in at a competitive $499 pre-subsidies. Meanwhile, there’s a full bundle of apps and even a Power Keyboard accessory with QWERTY, an integrated battery, and USB ports. Inside the polycarbonate plastic casing there’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor with LTE and WiFi. Nokia has opted not to make a WiFi-only version, arguing that the market for a connected tablet is more the niche it is aiming for. The 615g slate has tapered edges to make it feel more slimline in the hands, but still manages to accommodate an 8,000 mAh battery which Nokia claims should deliver 8-10 hours of runtime with LTE...

Nokia Lumia 1520 is official (UPDATED)

Nokia has launched the Lumia 1520, the company’s flagship phablet with a 6-inch Full HD screen, Windows Phone 8.1, and a 20-megapixel PureView camera borrowing the lossless digital zoom from the Lumia 1020. Nokia’s biggest Windows Phone to-date, the Lumia 1520 runs the latest version of Microsoft’s smartphone platform on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz quadcore, with LTE and a 3,400 mAh battery that’s even bigger than what’s inside HTC’s One max. There’s also integrated wireless charging, using the Qi standard, and – in a welcome change for Lumia handsets – and microSD card slot. Microsoft has fitted the Lumia 1520′s polycarbonate plastic casing with a total of four microphones, two on the front and two on the back, which can be independently switched on or off depending on whether they’re being used for noise-cancellation in calls or for virtual surround sound during video recording. Nokia Asha 500,502,503 unveiled (UPDATED)

Asha 503 Nokia has revealed a trio of new Asha handsets, the Asha 500, 502, and 503, pushing its affordable smartphone range with an unusual “trapped in ice” aesthetic. The three phones join the original Asha 501, announced earlier this year, in offering a MeeGo-esque interface and budget features, with all three expected to come in at under $100 pre-subsidies. Nokia went for a bold, blocky color scheme for the original Asha, and the three new models step that up a notch, encasing the bright shells in transparent plastic. The Asha 500 is the cheapest, with a 2.8-inch display and a mere 2-megapixel camera. It will come in a choice of single or dual-SIM versions, with the latter getting easy switching between the two accounts, and like all three of the new Asha devices be available in red, free, yellow, cyan, white, or black. Stepping up, the Asha 502 has a slightly larger, 3-inch display, along with a 5-megapixel camera, this time paired with an LED flash. It will have dual-SIM...

HTC might be planning on a nice and disruptive tablet ,wearable devices are also on its list

HTC will look to wearables and a new tablet in order to try to reclaim market share, the company has teased, promising “something nice and disruptive” for its new slate. The company has been slow to capitalize on recent attention in either segment, though according to CEO Peter Chou that’s because many such devices – particularly smartwatches – have been more gimmicks than anything else, the Financial Times reports. “It has to meet a need, otherwise if it’s just a gimmick or concept, it’s not for people’s day-to-day lives” Chou said, describing the wearables market as “still too early” and some of the existing products from HTC’s rivals – presumably including Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Kickstarter-success Pebble – “version one”. However, Chou argues, that leaves a space HTC could step into. “That is an opportunity for us,” he suggested. “People laughed at us when we came out with the first smartphone … Now everyone has a smartphone. I’m pretty sure wearables will be the same, but ...

BBM for iOS and Android will be launched today (finally)

BBM for Android and iPhone will take a second-attempt at launching today, with BlackBerry’s instant messaging service hitting the Google Play and iOS App Store, though even if you can download it, you won’t necessarily be able to use it. After the botched launch last month, this time around there’ll be a two-stage process to getting BBM, BlackBerry says, with a waiting list in the app for service. After downloading BBM – it’ll also be in select Samsung Apps stores – there’ll be a registration page. Would-be users can put in their email address and be alerted when they’ll actually be allowed to use BBM itself; there’s no timeline for how many new sign-ups BlackBerry expects to have activated each day. Those that signed up to BlackBerry’s pre-interest list will get service immediately, however. The company says that amounts to around six million people; “we are focused on moving millions of customers through the line as fast as possible” is the closest BlackBerry will get to promising...

Nokia Treasure Tag and Guru NFC player gets @evleaked before the scheduled Nokia event tomorrow

A couple of leaked images delivered by evleaks have shown a few of tomorrow's Nokia announcements including the Lumia 1520 phablet. The handset is joined by a couple of accessories - the Treasure Tag key finder and the Nokia Guru music player. The first leak shows the Nokia Lumia 1520 from a new angle, that lets us get a better idea of the slim profile of the device. Judging from the photo, it's going to be as thin, if not thinner, than the Lumia 1020 cameraphone. Unconfirmed information states the Lumia 1520 will likely feature a 6" display, 20 MP camera and 3,390 mAh battery. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will feature a potent quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and FullHD 1080p display, who gained support for WP8 a couple of days ago with the GDR 3 update. The Nokia Glance Background will also be on board. As far as the accessories go, the Nokia Treasure Tag is a little keychain device which resembles the HTC Fetch you might have seen. Basically, you hook it to your keys and ...

Rumor has it - Sony or Samsung's own camera division might provide cameras for the upcoming Galaxy S5

The Galaxy Note 3 might be what everyone currently on the market for a smartphone is interested in, but the Rumor mill is already getting busy with the the next Samsung flagship. According To ETNEws Sony and Samsung LSI are prepping themselves for a bidding war to become the main supplier of the camera, which according to sources is going to have a 16 MP sensor. Samsung LSI has that ISOCELL technology to give it an edge as well as optical image stabilization, but that's only available in a 13 MP module for now. There's also the fact that Samsung LSI is part of Samsung itself so it has better connections around the Mobile division. Still Sony has a reputation for its camera sensors used in point and shoots, DSLR and EVIL cameras and various smartphones, including the Galaxy S4. Next come some rumors about the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5 from Joseilbo. They are very optimistic and, one would argue, slightly unrealistic. First concerning the CPU, which is said to be 64-bit o...

HTC's Peter Chou hands his duties over to the companies co-founder .

Peter Chou, the CEO of HTC has stepped back from some of his executive duties in order to focus his attention to product development. His duties have been handed over to Cher Wang – HTC’s co-founder and chairwoman. The move is described as a temporary one. Ms. Wang has increased her involvement in day to day operations including sales, supplier relations, and marketing. The latter has been acknowledged as a weak link by the company. Mr. Chou confirmed the changes in an interview with The Financial Times. He explained them with the need to focus more on innovation, as well as on developing the product portfolio. It is no secret that HTC has been going through a difficult period which resulted in the Taiwanese manufacturer posting its first quarterly loss earlier this month. Peter Chou has been under a lot of criticism lately for the company’s far from great performance. GSMArena
