Snapdragon 820 - more power , cooler cores

Qualcomm has unveiled details of its next gen mobile superchip - The Snapdragon 820 . the processor , a second gen 64bit flagship processor aims to power next gen smartphones while keeping things cool thanks to Qualcomm's own custom chip design and a new GPU . At the heart of the Snapdragon 820 are 4 Kryo cores , these are said to be custom core designs which means Qualcomm will no longer use stock Cortex designs resulting in "hopefully" lower thermal signatures and lesser power consumption ,Qualcomm did not go deeper into explaining about its processing cores , but we can be sure the chips to fall into the 14 -18nm mark as the previous generation (S810) was 20 nm

GPU  performance is one place the new Snapdragon 820 will definitely find itself home , the new chip packs the Adreno 530 , a GPU that packs 40% more power and 40% less power consumption than the outgoing Snapdragon 430 of the S810 , this combined with the support for OpenGL ES 3.1 , Android Extension Kit means the chip will power next gen mobile devices including VR devices .

Support for 3 25MP cameras is also available in the new Soc thanks to the Spectra ISP , the system also allows manufacturers to combine dual camera setups to exploit the built in depth sensing and zoom features with ease . Details of its LTE support and further details about its cores will be released on a future date

We were under the impression that HTC will further invest in its One brand and not budge to carrier demands anymore when it comes to changing the name of the product – in the U.S., AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are going to sell it as the HTC One. But it looks like things aren’t necessarily so, and no, it’s not Verizon that’s going to get its way selling the One as the Droid DNA Plus, as it was recently rumored. We’re looking at China Mobile this time around, which has announced the HTC One as the HTC TD 101. That’s certa...
