Tamagotchi celebrates 25 years with new "smatwatch"

If you were a 90's tech-savvy kid or followed news outlets, chances are that you may have come across the brand Tamagotchi - a Japanese toy manufacturer who 25 years ago invented the original Tamagotchi Egg - also known as the Egg watch, was basically a tiny kids toy with a digital pet with which you can play certain games and even-take "selfies" by superimposing the image over images. The original Tamagotchi - debuted in 1996 is long gone but the concept of the virtual pet has lived on in generations since with the new Tamagotchi  smart bringing in the same basic concept in a smartwatch format.

Apart from the clock, the watch features your Tamagotchi pet and a slot to plug in TamaSmart cards - basically a usb style drive which contains special content for your pets - backgrounds and scenes and activities. These TamaCards are priced at $10 while the watch is set for around $68 (JPY to US$).The watch is also said to be sold to 23 early birds through a lottery system and the lottery will be running until the 2nd of June.

So if you are a Tamagotchi fan or just love the concept, you might need to contact your import agent/or local geek store as Bandai Namco will be selling this in Japan only. The item will be available starting from the 23rd of November 2021 and is sold in a special anniversary packaging. The Tamagotchi Smart, in a bit of irony is being announced during a global chip shortage, the first  Tamagotchi in 1996 caused a chip shortage back then as the demand for these devices were through the roof.

HTC One to sell as TD 101 at China Mobile

HTC decided to invest in such a brand by launching the One series of smartphones last year, although the company was not able to impose its own product names to certain carriers. Then, just a few days ago, the company launched the HTC One, which is going to be the company’s only One-branded handset this year, a make-or-break kind of project for the Taiwanese Android maker that’s still having a tough time fighting against the competition, especially Samsung. We were under the impression that HTC will further invest in its One brand and not budge to carrier demands anymore when it comes to changing the name of the product – in the U.S., AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are going to sell it as the HTC One. But it looks like things aren’t necessarily so, and no, it’s not Verizon that’s going to get its way selling the One as the Droid DNA Plus, as it was recently rumored. We’re looking at China Mobile this time around, which has announced the HTC One as the HTC TD 101. That’s certa...
