Sony Xperia ZX Premium - 960 fps slow motion on a smartphone

Sony has unveiled their flagship smartphone for 2017 . The new ZX Premium , a new addition to the ZX lineup is powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor , an enhanced design and a 19 mp camera with 960 fps slow motion  a 4K display and much more

Design , Display and Processor

Design wise , the new Sony ZX premium builds on Sony's timeless design process with wrap around Gorilla glass 5 surfaces and IP68 dust and water resistance . This design is also aided by a heat pipe layout found on many modern flagships today . The design also has a side mounter fingerprint sensor and the gorgeous 4K HDR display .Also included are dual S force stereo speakers .

Display wise , the new phone brings their proven 4K HDR technology to the mobile world once again , last seen on the Z5 Premium , the new IPS display(3840x2160p) is supported by Sony's Triluminous display technology and X reality image processing engine and HDR 10 .The display is protected by Corning gorilla glass 5

Processing power is provided by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835(8998) clocked to 2.45 Ghz (an Octacore chip) . The new chip supports upto 1G/bit of wireless broadband internet speed and has Adreno 540 GPU as well . The Snapdragon 8998 chip is mated to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage with MicroSD expansion .

Camera

As we stated earlier , Sony will be including their super slow-motion "Motion Eye" capable Smartphone sensor on this smartphone . The sensor , which includes a layer of   Dynamic RAM (DRAM) between the BSI image sensor and the circuit section . This new sensor - which has 19 effective megapixels is also a 1/2.3" sensor which puts in the same class as most high end action cameras of today .The sensor however can capture 19.6 megapixels in 1/120th of a second using its electronic shutter .

As for video , the sensor's new addition of the DRAM enables it to create a buffer for slow motion video upto (hypothetically) 1000 fps in 720p - a stunning feat indeed (provided software is enabled by the vendor) . The sensor is capable of 60fps on 4K (Whoa!) and if the hypothetically insane fps values are not met by software (clean buffer reading and more DRAM than 1Gbit ) it will still capture 240fps in 1080p as well .

This sensor puts to shame most slow motion capable smartphones and action cameras to date , although its no Phantom camera , the ability of phone sensors to capture details previously reserved for high end cameras does make the smartphone a serious threat to consumer grade camera manufacturers in the long run as well .

And the camera shoots manual / RAW images as well . It is optically stabilized and has a dual LED flash .

Up front , we have a 13MP camera capable of shooting 1080p and is a smaller 1/3" sensor with f2.0 aperture .

Battery and connectivity

The phone comes in Dual nano sim and single sim variants with LTE Cat 5 supported on both . There is also support for 24bit Audio and Quiccharging on its 3230 mAh battery via the supported USB type C port . The phone runs Android 7.1 out of the box .

Pricing

Is not revealed yet , but we will update this as soon as its available . Sony is also said to officially release details on a slightly cheaper model with a 5.2" 1080p display and a smaller battery and ram capacity called the Xperia ZXs to select markets as well . This will have the same camera features of the ZX premium . details are yet to be revealed .

HTC One to sell as TD 101 at China Mobile

HTC decided to invest in such a brand by launching the One series of smartphones last year, although the company was not able to impose its own product names to certain carriers. Then, just a few days ago, the company launched the HTC One, which is going to be the company’s only One-branded handset this year, a make-or-break kind of project for the Taiwanese Android maker that’s still having a tough time fighting against the competition, especially Samsung. We were under the impression that HTC will further invest in its One brand and not budge to carrier demands anymore when it comes to changing the name of the product – in the U.S., AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are going to sell it as the HTC One. But it looks like things aren’t necessarily so, and no, it’s not Verizon that’s going to get its way selling the One as the Droid DNA Plus, as it was recently rumored. We’re looking at China Mobile this time around, which has announced the HTC One as the HTC TD 101. That’s certa...

The three new smartphones , announced right along side their new Apple TV 4K and the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular support ,mark a new beginning for Apple as they set out to further refine the 10 year old legacy set by the original iPhone almost 10 years back . iPhone 8 and 8 Plus The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are basically successors to last year's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models , the new duo - designed with glass backs and a metal frame , says goodbye to Apple's aluminum unibody construction as the new iPhones feature Qi Wireless charging (Metal backs are not very good for inductive charging ) . The phones , which still feature the same display sizes - 5.5" - iPhone 8 Plus and 4.7 " on the iPhone 8 will not "wow" anyone as they still feature no major resolution bump as well .But as they say , true beauty is ...
